Take a look at the Moon on the evening of July 13th, 2024. It will occult the star Spica sometime between 10:25-10:35pm CDT as seen from the Baton Rouge area. The star will actually disappear behind the darkened limb of the Moon and you can look for its reappearance from the light side at approximately 11:41pm.
Be sure to start watching several minutes early so you don't miss it. It'll happen fast!
Binoculars or a telescope will aid in seeing the event, but even with the naked eye you will be able to see the star disappear as the Moon moves in front of it.
Clear Skies, Everyone!
